ARRL FIELD DAY 2026
We were truly the definition of "portable" ops this weekend. We did not stay overnight due to the location we used this year, but it made for a very long and difficult but rewarding time for all. It was hotter than you know what but as soon as the rain and storms hit the area we cooled off quickly.
Unfortunately, the first storm that hit us on Saturday ended up causing us to pack up most of our gear to see if we could ride it out but alas that did not happen and so we decided we would pack it up and hit again Sunday as planned. We did indeed come back some very bright and early before the sunrise and did our set up again and got back on the air. Bands were absolutely packed and difficult to work through some of the ops right on top of each other but hey that is the norm right and as with anything else it's a learning curve for new ops and those wishing to get involved and learn more about ham radio.
Special shoutout to KD4UYR, Kevin the Southwest Carolina Skywarn District Coordinator for monitoring and relaying important weather information to our club as well as others in the area for the entire weekend event. It is greatly appreciated by all.
Special thanks to the visitors we had visit us on Saturday to include ARRL Roanoke Division Asst. Director, N1ND Dan Henderson, Cherokee County Commissioner, Dr. Jeana Conley, EOC representative Barry Clayton and the Town of Andrews Alderman James McLean. We greatly appreciate that you all took the time to come visit us on a weekend, ask questions, and your support. Just a few of the photos taken and I am sure more to come once everyone gets them to me. We count this as another successful club event of having fun, fellowship, making contacts, learning new things and of course the laughter.
Special thanks as well to the following for supporting us by promoting our event or signing proclamations for our club and the amateur radio hobby: Town of Andrews Mayor James Reid and Aldermen, Town of Murphy Mayor Tim Radford and commission board members, Cherokee County Board of Commissioners, District Representative Karl Gillespie, and Senator Kevin Corbin.
Thank you to all of the club members that participated: KU4GZ, AA4AT, W4MAE, KE4MM, K1TDM, W4MXY, KQ4RYV and K1LY. Huge THANKS to all of the other clubs and ham radio ops across the globe that participated and we were able to get in the logbooks on 20M, 10M, 40M, 15M utilizing several modes to communicate. Until next year!
